What is a podcast?Taken from the words iPod and broadcast, the technical definition of a podcast is ‘a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and often downloaded through web syndication.’ For the purposes of this website, a podcast is any audio file that can be delivered electronically via the internet. Why podcast?Podcasts are extremely powerful tools to help organisations engage with customers, employees and shareholders because of the following 3 factors: Flexibility – Unlike any other format, podcasts can be accessed whilst undertaking simultaneous tasks such as driving, making it an extremely valuable asset for people who have limited time to digest information. Accessibility – The Internet has resulted in organisations publishing vast amounts of information, but many have not considered how that information will be accessed and digested. Audio podcasts open up information to the approximate 7 million people in the UK who struggle to read English text such as the partially sighted, those with dyslexia and those with English as an alternative language. Personality – many corporate websites are very slick and sophisticated, but business is essentially about people and relationships. Audio podcasts are a very cost effective vehicle for communicating the more human side of a business to its customers or employees.
